Celery Juice or Nah?

I recently hopped on the celery juice train out of pure curiousity I met a girl on Instagram who cured her autoimmune condition with it & new about several biohackers that raved about it. So with no prior research before and only hearing my intuition say DO IT I gave it a go. The first time I drank the “kool-aid” so to speak, I had this vibrant, light feeling kind of like magic. After a week I swear my skin was clearer. So I busted out the nutrition degree and decided it was worth researching. Why is celery juice beneficial? Was this the placebo effect?

Let me start by saying this, contrary to popular belief celery is not just water & fiber. Celery actually contains a ton of nutrients & antioxidants something to be honest I knew nothing about prior to my invetigation. What I found a little jaw dropping:


  • Decreases Inflammation: Inflammation is associated with chronic diseases from arthritis to heart disease. Nutrients in celery like vitamin C,  flavonoids, beta carotene and other phytonutrients have been shown to reduce inflammation of the GI tract, blood vessels and organs.

  • Alkalizing Effects: Celery also contains nutrients like sodium, magnesium and iron which have been shown to reduce the effects of acidic food and promote pH balance.

  • Supports Digestion: Fun fact, celery helps promote digestive secretions and as previously stated helps reduce inflammation of the entire gut.

  • Kidney Stones: It may remove toxins that cause kidney stone formation.

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis: Due to its anti-inflammatory properties its thought the celery can help with autoimmune conditions such as RA!

  • Surprisingly Nutrient Dense: vitamins A, C & K, magnesium, iron and all those phytonutrients.


Moral of the story, celery juice is pretty dope, it makes me feel magical and it's clearly got the science to back it up! The issue most people run into is the lack of a juicer but have no fear, I too lack a proper juicing device. That being said I’ve mastered the celery smoothie which as a bonus has all the fiber of a few stalks of celery and if I’m being honest is very enjoyable pulp and all.

My Fave Recipe:

  • 2 stalks celery

  • ¼ green apple

  • lemon juice

  • 1 cup water

  • Blended in your smoothie maker and enjoy!
